Book Review | Insomnia (Stephen King)



Insomnia is probably the only book for which it may very well be the cure for its namesake. It is also quintessential King trash, and serves as the prime example for why I dislike the majority of his work.
I picked this book up because it has been a personal goal and obsession of mine to investigate whether or not Pennywise from It is actually dead. Thus this means I must read all of the "Derry" books, and Insomnia was next on that list.

Book Review | The Wicked Deep


Hocus Pocus meets modern paranormal romance? Not exactly, I'm afraid.

Debut author Shea Earnshaw definitely showed that she can pull the rug out from under your feet with this novel. However, I feel that detail came with a caveat - that being, the only reason I didn't see this twist coming was because up until that point, I was getting pretty bored with this story.

Book Review | Let's Talk About Love

Books like this manage to make me both happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because of the representation that provides both input and perspective for those that both identify and don't identify with those represented. Sad, because it brings to light just how difficult the argument for representation is for those who are the standard, everyday average Joe.

I'm not generally open about my own sexuality (much like Alice in Claire Kann's Let's Talk About Love) but let's just say that this book did a very good job of representing asexuality. I suppose that's more or less an admission, but there it is.

Book Review | Daughter of the Siren Queen


Right before C2E2 I was emailed by the representatives at Feiwel and Friends asking if I was interested in reviewing a copy of Daughter of the Siren Queen, the sequel to Daughter of the Pirate Queen and the second book by Tricia Levenseller. Naturally, I was intrigued by the premise of both novels, so I said yes. I can truthfully say that I'm glad I did.

Although not my general cup of tea, both books in the series were light-hearted and fun enough that I could confidently recommend them to those who enjoy YA, romance, and/or pirates. Throw in a hefty dash of girl-power and you definitely have yourself a summer beach read series.
